Cedar, Hemlock, Basswood – why are there so many choices?
At Cabana Saunas, LLC we offer 2 types of wood, Cedar and Hemlock. You may be wondering why?
The main reasons are as follows:
- Our Cedar Saunas, are made from the highest quality cedar, known for it’s resistance to fungi and bacteria as well as repelling most insects and pests.
- Cedar gives off a pleasant aroma that can also have a therapeutic, and soothing effect. The Indians used cedar wood for all respiratory problems as well as for arthritis, rashes and menstrual pain.
- On the other hand some people are allergic to Cedar, therefore, Hemlock is an excellent choice.
- Hemlock is known for its natural strength and durability; it is naturally resistant to decay therefore ideal for our Cabana Saunas. It’s longevity is 300 – 1000 years, most other woods average 200 years. Hemlock is a strong, safe, very attractive and has an even grained wood texture.
- Hemlock is orderless and very hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for sensitive individuals
- Aesthetic reasons, Hemlock is a light brown color and Cedar is a dark brown color – giving you 2 options to match the decor in your house
